Speaking & Workshops

As a first-generation college graduate with over 15 years in higher education, I am passionate about helping students, organizations, and institutions create meaningful learning experiences. I partner with colleges and non-profits to deliver workshops, keynotes, and consulting that are grounded in research and brought to life through story.

Title of lecture: “Straddling Working-Class and Middle-Class Cultures”

On campus, I lead interactive workshops and talks for audiences of any size on first-generation student experiences, pedagogy, and programming. Drawing on my background as a faculty development director and my research on class cultures and first-gen students (check out my book on Class Cultures and Social Mobility), I help faculty and staff leave with both immediate strategies and a deeper understanding of why they work.

My consulting work builds on years of hands-on experience creating and sustaining first-gen initiatives, including a first-gen advisory board, bridge program, first-gen center, internship program, and educational travel.

For non-profits and community partners, I offer customized trainings that explore how class culture shapes organizational life and how to leverage the strengths of diverse backgrounds.

More broadly, I love speaking about class cultures, navigating between working- and middle-class worlds, and thriving in mixed-class settings. Let’s connect about how we might collaborate!
